The Lycoming College Art Gallery will host Stephen Parlato’s “Dragons” exhibit from Friday, Jan. 23 – Feb. 20 at 25 W. Fourth Street, Williamsport. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
“Dragons” is a celebration of the legendary creatures, utilizing Parlato’s unique collage technique. His technique utilizes hand cut layered papers assembled with sequin pins on foam-core.
Parlato is an artist and educator whose unique and fascinating collage-illustrated books have earned him a devoted following around the world. His books have been carried in many art museum shops, including both The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., The Walters Art Museum, and The Baltimore Museum of Art. His book, “The World That Loved Books” is a PBS-recommended Reading and Language Arts Book. He teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art and has worked with young adults for 21 years as a mental health counselor. He grew up in Levittown, N.Y., and attended the Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture and the Maryland Institute College of Art.
The Lycoming College Art Gallery, which opened to the public in October, plans to feature regional and national exhibitions in addition to the annual Art Faculty Show and Senior Show. The next exhibit will be Aya Takashima: In Passing. A reception and gallery talk is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26 from 4:30 – 8 p.m. This event is also free and open to the public.
