The Lycoming College community eagerly greeted more than 750 family members and friends for Family Weekend held September 19-21. The weekend provided the opportunity for parents and other family members to connect with the Lycoming campus, faculty and staff while gaining a better sense for the ebb and flow of student life. For many, it was the first reunion with their child since move-in day.

Along with informal tours of residential halls and academic buildings, visitors enjoyed a number of activities held on campus. Highlights of the weekend included celestial displays in the Lynn Science Center’s new Detwiler Planetarium and watching several Lycoming athletics competitions, which included wins for women’s and men’s soccer and football teams.

Participants also took advantage of concerts, bowling, a cruise on the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat and informational sessions. President Kent C. Trachte, Ph.D. provided an overview of the college’s progress on a number of strategic initiatives. Dean of First Year Students Andrew Kilpatrick shared a freshman class update and Philip Witherup, coordinator of study abroad and travel courses, provided information about opportunities for studying abroad. Professors also met with family members during a faculty open house.
