Lycoming College students recently created marketing plans for Ravine Ridge, a new short-term physical rehabilitation and transitional care unit that will open on The Williamsport Home campus. The participating students were enrolled in a marketing strategy course taught by Bonita Kolb, Ph.D., associate professor of business administration.
The effort was initiated by Anne Landon, assistant director of the Institute for Management Studies at Lycoming, who commented on the value of this experience for the community and the students.
“It is these types of arrangements that not only help local organizations, but give students career direction and invaluable real world, hands-on experience – the edge they need in this highly competitive job market,” Landon said.
Due to the project’s success, Lycoming senior business major Maralee Fye has been chosen to be a marketing intern for Ravine Ridge in the spring. She will help to implement the ideas the students proposed to the facility directors. Senior business major Maly Kongsynonh will contribute as a volunteer as well.
Donald Pote, executive director of The Williamsport Home, was happy to involve students in the process and said that the presentations of marketing ideas were thoughtful and impressive.
“Each of the group presentations showed careful, research, insight and creative thinking on possible opportunities for The Williamsport Home to consider in marketing Ravine Ridge to our region,” Pote said. “We are fortunate to have Lycoming College as part of our community and for the exceptional professional services students provide community businesses and organizations such as The Williamsport Home.”
The Williamsport Home is a nonprofit retirement community that offers apartment living, assisted living services, health care and rehabilitation therapy.
