Lycoming College will be offering two shows in the Detwiler Planetarium on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. as part of Williamsport’s First Friday events. The event is open to the public. Free tickets are available that evening starting at 5 p.m. outside the planetarium. Seating is first come, first served.
This month’s show will highlight smaller objects in the night sky including dwarf planets and comets. Learn why Pluto was reclassified as a regular planet to a dwarf planet and how many of these tiny behemouths exist in our solar system. Then turn your attention to comets: how they are classified, what separates them from an asteroid, and whether these two astronomical bodies are really all that different.
The planetarium is located in the Lynn Science Center on the corner of Washington Blvd. and Mulberry St.
